What are Monster Trucks
Monster Trucks are specialized vehicles used for competitions and entertainment. The most recognisable feature on a Monster Truck is its set of four giant wheels, which lifts the body of the vehicle high off the ground. Monster Trucks have four-wheel steering and powerful suspension to absorb the impact of high jumps, rough obstacles, and heavy landings.
Monster Truck history
In the 1970s, Monster Trucks started out as heavily modified pickup trucks used in other motorsports events like truck pulling. In 1981, the owner of Bigfoot, the first real Monster Truck, drove over some old cars and filmed it as promotional material. This soon led to Bigfoot performing the same car crushing stunts in front of an audience in 1982. In the early 80s, Monster Truck events became popular side acts and supporting events at motocross races and demolition derbies. By 1988, the Monster Truck Racing Association (MTRA) was founded to standardize rules for events and truck building. Nowadays, the Monster Truck events have become so popular that they are often the main act, with sports such as motocross as side acts.
Monster Truck racing and freestyle events
Most Monster Truck shows have to main events: racing and freestyle. Racing events take place on indoor and outdoor tracks, often with obstacles such as ramps, dirt mounts and old cars. The tracks are often quite short, and the format is single-elimination. During the freestyle events, drivers have a limited amount of time to perform various stunts, such as wheelies, jumps and backflips. The driver who achieves the best score wins the event.
Car Crushing and safety
Previously, freestyle events also featured old cars for the Monster Trucks to wreck. Even large vehicles like old buses could be demolished on the track. This is also one of the most iconic images people associate with Monster Trucks. However, recently, many event promoters have removed this element from their freestyle courses out of safety concerns. This is due to various incidents where debris from smashed vehicles flew into the audience, causing serious injuries and even deaths among the event’s supporters.
How to play Monster Truck games
Most of our games do feature lots of high jumps and cars to crush, however. Players can demolish as many vehicles as they like in our Monster Truck events. In most games, players will have to drive along a track and perform spectacular flips and jumps while clearing massive obstacles and flying through giant flaming hoops. The aim is to reach the end of the track and gain the highest possible score.
