At Starbie, we offer a huge collection of zombie games. All of the games listed on this page are browser games. This means that all games can be played directly in an internet browser window, no downloads required. Below, we’ve provided some more information about the zombie game genre.
What are zombie games
In most zombie games, the player has to survive a zombie Apocalypse that has wiped out out almost every human being in the city or even the whole country. While searching for food and other supplies, the player will be attacked by zombies. In some games, the player must defend their hideout against the undead, or form a search party to look for other survivors. Many of these games combine shooting game elements and strategy game elements to create a thrilling adventure. In some games, the zombies will shuffle forward slowly, as their rotting bodies are covered with disgusting wounds, but in other games the zombies are terrifying mutated creatures that move with chilling speed.
What are zombies
The modern zombie can be traced back to Haitian folklore, in which the zombie is a soul or physical body enslaved by a sorcerer or witch. The zombie would then have to serve its master as a living corpse with no will or mind of its own, and no regard for the state of its body. In contemporary Western zombie stories, Voodoo magic is often replaced with some sort of scientific accident that causes people to be infected with a ‘zombie virus’. For example, the cult movie Night of the Living Dead (1968) combines modern and folklore elements. The zombies in this movie are created through mysterious radiation or infection caused by modern science, but their behaviour is based on the evil flesh-eating ghouls of Arabic folklore. This movie created the prototype of the zombies we see in the media today: reanimated corpses that eat human brains and infect other humans by biting or scratching them.
How to play zombie games
In The Night of the Living Dead, the protagonists barricade themselves in a house in an attempt to survive, which forms the basis of a lot of online zombie games. Players who have watched any zombie movies probably already know what to do. Often, the player will have to search for food, weapons, ammunition and other survivors. They must frequently find a safe place to take shelter, and defend their hideout during the night. Players must gather enough provisions and medical supplies to stay alive. The player’s hideout can be protected with mines, barbed wire, and other traps.
